Jonathan Davis welcomes Konstantin Sidorov, CEO of the London Technology Club, for a chat about the club. The London Technology Club is a community of institutional investors, high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and professional tech investors. The club organises educational events around technology, demonstrating how tech disrupts selected sectors of the economy, such as art, wine or construction.

The London Technology Club's services range from equipping its members with knowledge about tech and enabling members to network with other people, to providing investment opportunities, either directly via the club's own fund, or indirectly via 20 different VF funds from across the world.

Investors in tech generally face three major problems: 1) investing usually is a side project which leaves little time for due diligence; 2) for private persons, it's very difficult to get allocation in the best companies; 3) even investments in growth stage companies require a lot of capital, and they are risky. The London Technology Club seeks to resolve these issues by pooling money from different investors so that they can invest in a portfolio of companies. It also tries to fill a gap in London's club scene by bringing together people with an interest in technology investments.

The London Technology Club focusses on companies with a valuation between £100 million and £1 billion. For private investors, access to the best companies in this range is usually difficult and requires expertise, which is where the London Technology Club provides support to its members.

To the London Technology Club, selecting the best companies and providing its members with allocation to these companies is key. The club has so far invested in around 60 companies; out of these companies, one company has become bankrupt while another one has gone down.

The London Technology Club does not see the current period of high inflation, rising bond yields, and tech sell-off in the public markets as a threat for investors. On the contrary, the club stresses that its most successful investments were made during times of downturn. When it invested in Revolut at the end of March 2020, the company had a valuation of £5 billion; the club has since sold its shares at a valuation of £33 billion. The London Technology Club stresses, though, that during difficult times, investing should be delegated to professionals.
