Sarah Lowther interviews the CEO and CFO of Northcoders, Chris Hill and Charlotte Prior, to find out more about their business model and growth plans. Northcoders is making coding accessible to all. The company listed on AIM in July 2021.

Starting out as the "Coding Bootcamp for the North", Northcoders has expanded its mission, to comprise closing the skills gap for businesses, and creating lifechanging opportunities for individuals. Alongside its original base in Manchester, the company also has locations in Leeds and Newcastle.

Northcoders' initial customer base mainly included career changers in their late 20s and early 30s. Through its apprenticeship company, Northcoders now also targets a younger audience.

Through its online model, Northcoders also has learners in the South of England. Northcoders' apprenticeship company operates across England, and through its corporate solutions divisions, the company also provides a nationwide coverage. Northcoders' key hubs on its roadmap include Sheffield, Liverpool, Hull and Nottingham.

The coronavirus pandemic initially proved a major hit to Northcoders which only had physical campuses in Leeds and Manchester. In response, the company established an online platform and now has a fully hybrid, more scalable business model in place.

Northcoders is currently investing in both horizontal scalability (product roadmap) and vertical scalability (training). The company is also accelerating its hub roadmap, and is investing heavily in its corporate solutions division.
