<video:title>The difference between cannabis and cannabinoids</video:title>
<video:description>While cannabis refers to the plant itself, cannabinoids represent specific molecules taken from that plant. For investors, the two key cannabinoids currently comprise THC (a psychoactive, government-regulated compound) and CBD (a non-psychoactive, over-the-counter compound). Research is also starting to uncover additional benefits of another cannabinoid, CBG.</video:description>

            <video:title>Symphony Environmental Technologies' cash burn</video:title>
<video:description>Symphony Environmental Technologies currently does not see a cash burn. The company made a small loss in both 2020 and the first half of 2021, and has sufficient headroom within its own cash flow and banking facilities. Its gross profits are spent on market development and R&D. Symphony Environmental Technologies considers itself in a good position for 2022, as an increasing number of governments cannot ban plastics and are thus supporting the idea of its technology.</video:description>

            <video:title>The key themes of 2022</video:title>
<video:description>Master Investor author Victor Hill sees three strands as the main themes in 2022: i) macroeconomics (influenced by continuing inflation, increasing interest rates etc.), ii) technology (the performance of technology stocks post-Covid), and iii) geopolitics (impacted by the danger of a Russian invasion in Ukraine). Asset allocation is considered as key to good investing in 2022.</video:description>

            <video:title>Inflation and technology stocks</video:title>
<video:description>Master Investor author Mark Watson-Mitchell sees inflation going up to 10%, with sales being tempered post-Covid. He also sees technology stocks lowering and difficult to value, and thus prefers annual recurring revenue stocks.</video:description>

            <video:title>The predictability of developments</video:title>
<video:description>Master Investor contributor Jonathan Davis undoubtedly sees volatility to be a key theme in 2022. In light of uncertain developments – such as the Ukraine conflict, interest rates and inflation, and Federal Reserve movements – he takes a more cautious approach in 2022, leaning towards cash and more defensive investments.</video:description>

            <video:title>Victor Hill's positioning</video:title>
<video:description>Victor Hill sees a potential turning point for interest rates to return to normality, which would affect technology stocks. He therefore refrains from allocating to large-caps technology stocks, instead reducing equity exposure. Victor Hill is bullish on commodities, agriculture and land, as well as some niche technologies such as vaccine developments and cyber security.</video:description>

            <video:title>Exposure to investment trusts</video:title>
<video:description>Investment trusts are equities, listed companies with a distinctive feature: they have a board of directors, and are governed by company law and the accounting requirements of listed companies. However, with a concept of discounts and premiums, they represent a more sophisticated investment. Jonathan Davis, author of "The Investment Trusts Handbook", considers investment trusts as very good vehicles for long-term investors. Over the last ten years, so-called alternative investment trusts have emerged, which not just invest in equities but more specialist areas such as renewable energy, specialist property or logistics.</video:description>

            <video:title>The prospects of renewable energy</video:title>
<video:description>Victor Hill considers decarbonisation to be one of the great themes of the next three decades. He highlights that in share price terms, power generators seem to have performed less strongly than other market participants, such as companies which produce the technology and components that drive renewable energy. While he sees various issues with both wind technology and battery technology (particularly lithium-ion battery technology), Victor Hill has hydrogen technology on his watchlist for the next ten years, and is also quite bullish on nuclear.</video:description>

            <video:title>The prospects of banks</video:title>

<video:title>Commodities Investing: Lean into inflation, spend time in the market and research the fundamentals</video:title>
<video:description>Do we lean into inflation or panic? Commodity investment expert Simon Popple advises invest in areas that are going to go up in price. Think fuel, think energy and think about the opportunities that some well-run mining companies will present to those not risk averse and those with the time to do their research.

Popple is founder of Brookville Capital, a service dedicated to educating about commodities, portfolio diversification and stock recommendations including Chalice Mining which has increased ’65 times’ since Popple’s endorsement.

In this podcast he shares his BRIDGE stock analysis technique, and belief that investors should ‘spend time in the market instead of timing the market.’ Simon also gifts viewers and listeners of this Master Investor interview with an inflation busting exclusive discount code to his weekly Brookville Capital Intelligence Report.</video:description>

<video:title>Investing in the Future of Longevity – the Ketone Chapter</video:title>
<video:description>The field of longevity has long been considered to be theoretical and one for the future, but that future is here now. The science of ketosis promises lucrative opportunities in a wide range of therapeutic areas, and the global keto market is expected to rise to $15 billion by 2027.

Juvenescence has brought together the leading experts in the ketone metabolism research field for a panel discussion on the revolution happening with ketones and the direction the research is leading the key players in this space. We cover how ketones can modulate fundamental aspects of human physiology, including glucose metabolism, brain function and heart health.</video:description>

            <video:title>About ketosis</video:title>
<video:description>Dr Jonathan Little defines endogenous ketosis as being "designed to ensure that the brain has appropriate fuel when food or carbonhydrates are scarce", with ketosis representing detactable ketones in the bloodstream. Fasting or a ketogenic diet are two ways to get into ketosis through diet.</video:description>

            <video:title>About exogenous ketones</video:title>
<video:description>Dr John Newman describes exogenous ketones as a way to deliver ketone bodies directly (as a food, supplement, or drug), thus bypassing other means of producing ketone by the body itself, such as fasting or a ketogenic diet. He considers ketone esters as the cutting-edge of exogenous ketones.</video:description>

            <video:title>Ketones in metabolic disease research</video:title>
<video:description>Dr Jonathan Little highlights that both a ketogenic diet or fasting have long been known as beneficial to treating diabetes. Building on other studies into the impact of exogenous ketones on lowering glucose and inflammation, the team has started a series of studies to demonstrate the glucose-lowering effects of exogenous ketones.</video:description>

<video:title>The biggest impact of exogenous ketones</video:title>
<video:description>Dr Jonathan Little sees the biggest immediate impact of exogenous ketones in the effects on the brain. For his own research, he finds the effects of ketones on the immune system as most exciting.

Dr Peter Crawford agrees that the greatest opportunity lies in the domain of neurodegenerative disease and cognitive dysfunction, as well as the prospect of heart failure, and regulation and control of inflammation and modulation of immunity in a protected manner. He highlights the need for a better understanding of how ketones are working in a given context.

Dr John Newman agrees with Dr Peter Crawford and sees the leading edge for the keytone biology field in its readiness for clinical applications. He also sees the need for additional research to help design molecules and therapies, and further refine the diseases and applications that will benefit the most from ketone biology.</video:description>

            <video:title>RBG Holdings' share price decline</video:title>
<video:description>Having tripled between January and June 2021, the share price of RBG Holdings has declined considerably since. The group attributes the decline to three factors in particular: 1) lack of material result in its litigation investment, 2) overall economic background, 3) its fairly illiquid business.</video:description>

            <video:title>ENGAGE XR – Disrupting Global Communication</video:title>
<video:description>David Whelan was stony broke after the 2008 financial crash, but after a €1,000 loan from his sister, and an investment into Oculus headsets he is now the chief executive of dual-listed virtual reality software company ENGAGE XR Holdings PLC (LON:EXR) which is dedicated to the deployment of the metaverse.

The metaverse, according to Whelan, is the evolution of how we communicate online. Currently the internet is like a flat page filled with text and video. Compare that to the metaverse which is about engagement and a breakaway from the internet which can be solitary and divisive.

He talks to Master Investor about the company’s pathway to profitability, how everybody should have a stake in the metaverse and the customer profile which tellingly includes Facebook.</video:description>

            <video:title>About the metaverse</video:title>
<video:description>The metaverse is the evolution of how we communicate online. Whereas the Internet is a rather flat environment, the metaverse is the equivalent of a real life's city. Companies in the metaverse will have their own metaverse which they can completely control.</video:description>

<video:title>ENGAGE XR Holdings' unique selling point</video:title>
<video:description>Unlike companies like Meta, ENGAGE XR Holdings sees the Metaverse very similar to the Internet, whereby the Metaverse does not represent one platform but a collection of different platforms providing different services. With security being a major concern for ENGAGE XR Holdings, it is the only metaverse platform with ISO security certification as well as private hosting options.</video:description>

<video:description>CentralNic has experienced strong growth at the top line over the past few years; after $56 million revenue in 2018, 2021 saw over $400 million in revenue while $550 million or more are forecast for 2022. The company attributes its turnaround from small operating losses to operating profits to acquisitions and corresponding amortisations that often distorted its operating profits. With the scaling up of the business, acquisitions played a smaller role on the company's balance sheet.</video:description>

<video:description>ANGLE was founded in 1994 with the initial objective of establishing one or more world-class companies based on intellectual property. It was listed in 2004, and eventually identified Parsotix Inc. as one of its standout companies to focus on, based on its potential to improve cancer patients' lives, and its risk/return position. For over ten years, ANGLE has been focussing exclusively on developing Parsotix further.</video:description>

<video:description>The near-term return is in pharma services; cancer drug trials can utilise the Parsotix system which offers longitudinal monitoring to patients. Medium- and longer term, the technology provides an opportunity for early diagnosis of high-risk cancer patients as well as for treatment decisions. The total addressable market in the US, which ANGLE focusses on, is $100 billion per annum.</video:description>

<video:title>TPXimpact Holdings PLC: An incredibly cash generative business blending autonomy with responsibility</video:title>
<video:description>Neal Gandhi founded TPXimpact Holdings (AIM: TPX) with a mission to reduce, and eventually eradicate the bureaucracy that paralyses government programmes at local and central level.

The company is a technology-enabled services company focused on digital transformation which in Gandhi’s words: “Empower our teams at the edge to get the job done without bureaucracy.”

TPX does that, he says, by pulling together multi-disciplinary teams, to create solutions that work and deliver against the goal for companies. He adds it’s about sharing findings, ensuring great value for taxpayers with the ultimate goal of benefiting society.

The client list is impressive and includes DEFRA, the Food Standards Agency and the NHS. TPX counts 50 of the largest 160 local authorities as its clients, and commercial customers include Legal & General and HSBC.

While society benefits, Gandhi wants to make sure shareholders do too. He says the business is incredibly cash generative, and on a run rate basis his and the team’s goal is to deliver £200 million revenue by March 2025.</video:description>

<video:description>Sarah Lowther talks key facts and figures with Neal Gandhi, CEO of TPXimpact Holdings. TPXimpact Holdings has a vision to deliver impactful, sustainable digital transformation to enrich how individuals and society experience the world. The company's values "autonomy with responsibility" contrast with the hierarchical, top-down approach of many legacy companies. Instead, believing that intelligence sits at the edge rather than at the centre or top, TPXimpact Holdings empowers its teams to get the job done, while also giving them responsibility.</video:description>

<video:description>TPXimpact Holdings' approach to achieving "autonomy with responsibility" is to set up multidisciplinary teams (such as user researchers, content designers, technical architects and full-stack software developers) and apply a highly iterative work process to create solutions for the intended end user group. TPXimpact Holdings sees this approach as key to avoiding failures of big transformation programmes such as The National Programme for IT in the NHS, or Track and Trace.</video:description>

<video:title>Bloomsbury Publishing: Highest ever sales and profit for the publisher that’s a joy to manage</video:title>
<video:description>As it approaches its 36th birthday, Nigel Newton CBE the founder and chief executive of Bloomsbury Publishing PLC (LON:BMY), says the publisher has "Never been a more fun company to run and to work at."

One of the reasons for that he says is: "Success breeds success, and this 41% growth in sales that we’ve seen over the last two years and 70% increase in profits is a joy to manage."

Newton says that the reading habit re-engaged with during lockdown has been "permanently reacquired" and that the company is trading in line with management expectations which he says are "high expectations."

He talks not only about the joy of management but at the core of the business the joy of reading aiding those who are now pursuing hobbies that are well serviced by books.

Bloomsbury, says Newton, is an unusual publisher describing it as half general, half academic which is platform agnostic selling authors’ works in hardback, paperback and e-book and as an audio book download. "We promote the story and leave the decision to how to consume it to the reader."

It is also the leading publisher of ornithology and sailing and one of the lead publishers for baking. At its most fundamental level, says Newton, books are filling a new information need and there’s reading itself for 'escape, enlightenment and entertainment.'

Bloomsbury is also a beneficiary of the self-publishing phenomenon with many of its authors starting out on that route including internationally renowned fantasy writer Sarah J Maas, who is also much recommended by the TikTok subcommunity #BookTok which has had over 60 billion interactions as of June 2022.

Beloved by readers, Newton says that the company's dividend policy makes it much beloved too by investors particularly growth funds in the city.</video:description>

            <video:title>Bloomsbury Publishing's post-pandemic sales</video:title>
<video:description>Bloomsbury Publishing's sales figures in March-May 2022 have continued to achieve the high pandemic lockdown levels. The company attributes this result to a fundamental reassessment and permanent shift in peoples' use of time; books serve to meet information needs, and help to provide an escape route. Alongside J.K. Rowling, whose Harry Potter books have seen a real boost during the pandemic, Sarah J. Maas has established herself as one of Bloomsbury Publishing's top authors.</video:description>

<video:description>As a platform-agnostic publisher, Bloomsbury Publishing does not have separate divisions for digital and print. Instead, its academic publishing division contains "Bloomsbury Digital Resources", which cover a range of high-level topics such as history, drama, architecture or philosophy.</video:description>

<video:description>Bloomsbury Publishing does not see authors self-publishing as a threat to its business model. Instead, these authors are considered a market research vehicle; once they amass a high following (such as Sarah J. Maas), they often approach publishers to help deliver the markets.</video:description>

<video:title>Open Orphan PLC – Aiming to deliver continued double digit growth</video:title>
<video:description>Open Orphan PLC (AIM:ORPH) was the first contract research organisation (CRO) to conduct a Covid challenge trial, and in the words of chief executive Yamin 'Mo' Khan, it now has approximately 90% of the market in challenge studies whereby "we inoculate each healthy volunteer with a virus and then we test the drug under quarantine conditions."

That’s a unique USP, and Mo talks about how the business has divested into new streams of revenue such as offering clinical site services to customers, and challenge models including asthma and malaria.

The last set of results showed a 76% increase in revenue and almost a £9 million swing on EBITDA, and chief financial officer Leo Toole says "we see strong potential to continue that kind of growth into future periods with the company aiming to deliver double digit EBITDA percentage points in terms of revenue and profitability."

Toole says booking off revenue for 2023 is almost finished, and the planning horizon is now stretching into 2024.

Both he and Khan are frustrated with the share price particularly as the backlog order book is worth approximately £65 million pounds which is close to the company’s current (June 2022) market cap. Khan concludes that "as we continue to grow and we build we’ll see a much stronger future and a much improved share price."</video:description>

            <video:title>The Liontrust UK Microcap Fund's investment process</video:title>
<video:description>For the first stage of its investment process, the Liontrust UK Microcap Fund has defined three attributes that a company needs to demonstrate: intellectual property, distribution, or repeat business. In addition, the fund also values some intangible assets such as a strong brand, strong culture, formats and procedures. Companies also have to be UK-headquartered and cannot be making losses. In the second stage, the fund tests the companies' assets in financial terms. Using the Quest system, a key metric that the fund is looking at includes the cash flow return on capital; companies have to make a return above their cost of capital. In the second stage of its investment process, the fund assesses the companies' valuation, before it decides on its position sizing using a grid of 14 risk measures.</video:description>

            <video:title>The Liontrust UK Microcap Fund's performance</video:title>
<video:description>The Liontrust UK Microcap Fund has performed exceptionally well over a number of years, with a lower level of volatility than the market as a whole. The fund attributes this performance to its investment style and focus on buying smaller companies that are profitable, have strong business models, and often strong balance sheets (due to owner managers).</video:description>

<video:description>The Liontrust UK Microcap Fund suffered from the market sell-off in early 2022 and downward valuations for quality growth companies across the market spectrum. As a result, it is currently down 14-15%. Initial impacts experienced by the fund affect some of its more consumer-facing stocks, as well as the fee-based financial stocks, both of which are driven by macro factors.</video:description>

<video:title>D4t4 Solutions: The cash generative tech company with game-changing initiatives</video:title>
<video:description>For 30 years, tech company D4t4 Solutions Plc (LON:D4T4) has helped organisations get the best value from all their data assets. It's been recognised for its service winning many awards including Technology Company of the Year in the 2022 Small Cap Awards.

The company operates in 27 countries, and as chief executive officer Bill Bruno explains the business mantra is applicable to customers everywhere - to help organisations better leverage data to make decisions, manage the ever evolving landscape of data privacy and help brands be the best stewards of their customer data.

It’s a big responsibility and Bruno, who was handpicked to take over as CEO by business founder Peter Kear, is confident any competition is unable to compete at the level D4t4 can with "its technologies that do phenomenal things for customers," including its pioneering data capture and contextualization platform that puts security and privacy compliance first.

As a cash generative, profitable business D4t4 recently rewarded investors with a special dividend, and an increase in the standard payout. Bruno doesn't make any promises about more special dividends, but is confident about the company’s future describing it as one "that is growing in a market that has the potential for further growth."</video:description>

            <video:title>The London Technology Club's rationale</video:title>
<video:description>Investors in tech generally face three major problems: 1) investing usually is a side project which leaves little time for due diligence; 2) for private persons, it's very difficult to get allocation in the best companies; 3) even investments in growth stage companies require a lot of capital, and they are risky. The London Technology Club seeks to resolve these issues by pooling money from different investors so that they can invest in a portfolio of companies. It also tries to fill a gap in London's club scene by bringing together people with an interest in technology investments.</video:description>

            <video:title>The London Technology Club's company focus</video:title>
<video:description>The London Technology Club focusses on companies with a valuation between £100 million and £1 billion. For private investors, access to the best companies in this range is usually difficult and requires expertise, which is where the London Technology Club provides support to its members.</video:description>

            <video:title>The London Technology Club's outlook for investors</video:title>
<video:description>The London Technology Club does not see the current period of high inflation, rising bond yields, and tech sell-off in the public markets as a threat for investors. On the contrary, the club stresses that its most successful investments were made during times of downturn. When it invested in Revolut at the end of March 2020, the company had a valuation of £5 billion; the club has since sold its shares at a valuation of £33 billion. The London Technology Club stresses, though, that during difficult times, investing should be delegated to professionals.</video:description>

<video:description>Sarah Lowther introduces the format of "Going for Gold", a webinar that hosts major investor Jim Mellon as well as three gold companies with exciting projects in development.

Kicking off with a Q&A session with Jim Mellon who gives his outlook on gold, the webinar will see the following companies presenting: 1) Glint, a financial services company with a range of board members from the World Gold Council, 2) Barton Gold, which has 20,000 metres of drilling underway, and 3) Condor Gold with the construction of its "La India" project ready.</video:description>

            <video:title>The perfect climate for gold?</video:title>
<video:description>Jim Mellon continues to consider gold (as well as other previous metals) an integral part of any investor portfolio. Gold is seen as having proven its worth during the recent inflationary period, particularly in comparison with currencies (except the dollar and ruble) as well as crypto currencies. Jim Mellon also expects an upsurge of the gold price well above USD 2000 before year-end 2022.</video:description>

<video:title>Strong dollar bad, weak dollar good?</video:title>
<video:description>Jim Mellon believes that as currencies begin to strengthen against the US dollar, the price for gold will go up. He recommends that 5-10% of any investor's portfolio should comprise precious metals. His own portion of gold investments includes futures, shares from large gold companies, and physical gold.</video:description>

<video:title>The best timing for releasing profits</video:title>
<video:description>Jim Mellon believes that the best timing for selling gold is at times of hysteria; investors shouldn't be tempted to go in at "peak hysteria". With an expected high upsurge in the gold price in the relatively near future, Mellon also expects hysteria to follow.</video:description>

The company admits that politics in Nicaragua have been challenging, with a discounting effect, but anticipates that if trade took an interest, this would be done with a long-term view, considering Condor Gold's valuation independent from its market capitalisation.</video:description>

<video:description>Mintus operates a 0/20 fee model whereby it does not charge any management fee but a 20% performance fee once a profit has been generated. It also applies a 1% exit fee, as well as a 9% mark-up on the initial negotiation price. The sale of the artwork is estimated to take place 2-7 years after purchase, though Mintus usually aims for a timeframe of 2-3 years.</video:description>

<video:title>Auxico Resources: diversifying the supply chain in the massive critical elements market</video:title>
<video:description>Auxico Resources (CSE:AUAG / OTC:AUXIF) is one of the few companies in the world selling monazite, the essential carrier mineral for rare earth elements deemed critical for economic security.

CEO and President Frederick Kozak explains the rare earth elements carried by monazite include the very difficult ones to produce and pronounce, and those of the highest value including praseodymium, neodymium, terbium, and dysprosium.

Kozak says Auxico’s contribution to the supply chain can help resolve what he calls an economic war with so many elements controlled and produced by the few.

Via its sister company in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Auxico is diversifying the supply chain in a market that has 'massive demand'. At the same time, it is progressing a resource estimate for its Minastyc Property in Columbia and the processing of its tin tailings project in Brazil.</video:description>

<video:title>Key influencing factors of the oil and gas market</video:title>
<video:description>Callum Macpherson, Head of Commodities at Investec, sees China as an uncertainty with regard to the demand for oil. A reopening of the country in 2023 would help increase demand and benefit the oil price. As for the supply of oil, Callum highlights the OPEC meeting in 2022 which decided to cut output limits, while for the supply of gas, Russia is seen to hold the keys for Europe. There's uncertainty as to how the gas inventory can be rebuild in 2023. More broadly, Callum considers oil prices as strongly correlated with equities while the high gas prices in Europe seriously impact equity markets and pose a threat to the sustainability of the European industry.</video:description>

<video:description>Jonathan Davis agrees that the current bear market had a negative (though not unexpected) impact on investment trusts. However, highlighting data from the AIC, he stresses that over 40% of those investment trusts with a market cap of over GBP 50 million had actually made a positive net asset value return over past 12 months, and 20% a share price total return.</video:description>

            <video:title>The duration of bear markets</video:title>
<video:description>Jonathan Davis confirms that bear markets occur fairly regularly and at relatively large intervals, and are usually defined by a 20% decline from peak to trough. As a rule of thumb, the duration of a bad bear market is around 18-24 months. For the current bear market, Jonathan expects a period of relatively lower returns.</video:description>

            <video:title>Lingo's rationale</video:title>
<video:description>Lingo was launched against a market-oriented idea, with blockchain representing the fastest technology adoption in history. 200 million people are currently in the blockchain space; blockchain adoption is growing at 113% per year, twice the rate of the Internet in the 1990s, which means that 1 billion people are expected to embrace Web3 by 2025.</video:description>

            <video:title>Lingo's return for investors</video:title>
<video:description>Based on conservative estimates, Lingo sees a 12-15% "return" in the form of miles for investors in year 1, with increasing returns over the subsequent years as investors add to their real estate assets.</video:description>

            <video:title>Lingo's five-year outlook for investors</video:title>
<video:description>Based on the assumption that Lingo generated around USD 10 million/year in real estate – accumulating to USD 50 million/year after five years – and assuming a 6% yield, an investment of USD 1,000 in year is expected to create a 30% return in year 5.</video:description>

<video:title>As goes January, so goes the year. Will 2023 be a stormy one?</video:title>
<video:description>Master Investor’s Sarah Lowther and Jonathan Davis discuss the investment themes that have started to materialise this year.

With some equity market indices approaching or breaking through their 200 day moving averages, is this potentially a positive sign for the rest of 2023?

Davis talks about the phenomenal success of passively managed funds over the past two decades, and names the active fund managers who deserve honourable mentions.

Inflation in the UK is discussed. Will it return to the Bank of England’s 2% target and why is BOE Governor Andrew Bailey eating humble pie?

And discover why Davis says this is the year that the trip to the US should be a vacation destination and the Western Isles shouldn’t.</video:description>

<video:title>The state of the equity markets</video:title>
<video:description>Jonathan Davis sees some encouraging signs in the equity markets in early 2023, such as many equity market indices having either approached or broken through their 200-day moving average. He stresses that 2022 was a particularly bad year, though, and as a result, many investors are still a long way from making back what was lost over the course of 2022.</video:description>

            <video:title>The role of inflation</video:title>
<video:description>Sarah Lowther and Jonathan Davis agree that the peak of inflation has been reached. Jonathan Davis stresses that the key question is how fast inflation is going to come down; this will depend on both interest rates and the economy.</video:description>

            <video:title>Active vs passive funds</video:title>
<video:description>Jonathan Davis highlights that passive funds have increased their share of the equity fund market for the last 20 years, and have continued to outperform actively managed funds over that period as well. In 2002, for the first time since the Great Financial Crisis, actively managed funds outperformed passive funds again, and Jonathan Davis could see a similar performance in 2023.</video:description>

<video:description>Master Investor’s Sarah Lowther and Jonathan Davis talk about what stopped the FTSE 100 from breaching the tantalising 8000 level, and the latest survey from FTSE creator Professor Dimson and friends.

Davis suggests foreign investors need to return to the UK market and reinvigorate its position in the World Equity Index after halving over the past two decades. He also reveals the golden rule concerning dividend yields and equity purchases.

Generous to a fault, Davis also summarises the latest 272-page survey from renowned financial historians Dimson, Marsh and Staunton and discusses how Gen Z’ers can still make money from investing, and why investment decisions are best made in the summer and not in March at the end of the financial year.</video:description>

He cites VitroLabs' lab-grown leather as well as precision fermentation foods as examples of products that are now on sale, and highlights that cell agriculture-based products are now also getting closer to the market. Jim Mellon emphasises the major difference between plant-based foods and foods produced through cell agriculture and precision fermentation, the latter of which have the capacity of being much cheaper, healthier, and more environmentally-friendly.</video:description>

<video:description>Jim Mellon sees a lot of money coming into the space, and considers the longevity sector as one to watch, albeit very carefully. He stresses the need for a diversified portfolio, and for everything to be science- and evidence-based. Personally and from a societal perspective, Jim Mellon views longevity as a great and vital opportunity, particularly in light of the demographic crisis in many countries across the world.</video:description>

<video:title>VCTs - tax efficient alternatives in uncertain times</video:title>
<video:description>Master Investor’s Jonathan Davis and Sarah Lowther talk about why March 2023 was a mega merger month, and why there’s so much consolidation in the broking sector and activity in the private equity space.

Davis advises those with surplus income and the younger investor to consider venture capital trusts as they ‘essentially’ give investors tax breaks. “They are very risky,” says Davis, “but they do provide a very tax efficient alternative for higher risk, smaller company investment.”

With predictions of ‘more trouble to come’ for the UK economy and investment landscape, Davis describes the economy as a head-scratching conundrum with the consumer demonstrating resilience against a backdrop of higher interest rates and energy prices.

Jonathan and Sarah also wax lyrical about the state of Royal Mail, and columnist A N Wilson’s dark childhood boarding school experiences which contrasted with the light of his father’s eccentricity.</video:description>

<video:title>The state of the equity markets</video:title>
<video:description>Jonathan Davis points out that the markets stabilised in March 2023, as fears of a banking crisis seemed to have subsided to an extent. The situation for brokers remains difficult, though, which is evidenced by some consolidation happening in the broking sector. Overall, Jonathan Davis's outlook on the economy remains rather gloomy.</video:description>

            <video:title>The state of the banks</video:title>
<video:description>Jonathan Davis considers the sharp rise of interest rates a problem for many banks as investors are beginning to move their money out of banks to get higher yields. At the same time, banks are affected by the significant drop in government bond prices, which reduces the value of their assets on the balance sheet.</video:description>

            <video:title>VCTs for young investors</video:title>
<video:description>Through providing tax breaks when investing in early-stage companies, venture capital trusts (VCTs) are designed to encourage support for new businesses and innovation. VCTs remain particularly attractive for retired people using the tax-free income, or for young high earners looking for a good long-term saving. Jonathan Davis recommends to look at VCTs early in the year. Since VCTs are high risk, he also points out the importance of having a diversified portfolio.</video:description>

            <video:title>2023 outlook</video:title>
<video:description>Even though the equity markets have fared relatively well, Jonathan Davis sees more trouble to come in 2023. He is sceptical of the strong economy despite the major interest rate and energy price rises, and believes the knock-on effects will become apparent during the remainder of the year.</video:description>
