Fintech currently experiences a start-up era as both technology and regulation have caught up with the desire to make finance easier and more accessible. The industry benefits from more APIs that enable better integration, as well as increased funding interest. In the UK, PSD2 has enabled open banking, which allowed people to access data much quicker.

LendInvest is a company that has revolutionised property finance for buy-to-let investors and is now starting to move into specialist homeowner mortgages, while Bango is one of the pioneers of mobile phone bill payments. In the foreign exchange arena, Alpha FX has been a mover and shaker, with Argentex being one of the newer entrants.

There are indications that the fintech bubble is already popping to a certain extent, as fintech indices around the world have seen their average multiples fall by around a third over recent months.

Metaverse might start to make its mark on fintech soon, with some products coming out as a result. Fintech is also expected to modernise the financial services in emerging markets, providing unprecedented access to savings, credits, health insurance etc.
