Sarah Lowther interviews the CEO and CFO of Microlise Group, Nadeem Raza and Bill Wynn, to find out more about their business model. Microlise Group provides transport management software to fleet operators, helping them to improve efficiency, safety and reduce emissions. The company was established in 1982 and listed on AIM in July 2021 when it raised over GBP 61 million.

Microlise Group supports two types of customers in running their operations: i) companies with large fleets of vehicles for whom Microlise Group provides transport solutions, and ii) OEMs who use Microlise Group's technology to understand how their vehicles are operating in real life. The company operates globally and increasingly generates its revenue from international markets beyond the UK and Europe.

Founded in 1982, Microlise Group listed on AIM in July 2021 and raised GBP 18.4 million for its business. The company's decision to IPO was primarily driven by the need for access to capital, in order to help take the business forward internationally, develop more products, and realise opportunities for M&A.

Microlise Group's M&A strategy is based on the following criteria: i) opportunities that represent a technology bolt-on (i.e. a technology that complements rather than duplicates the company's own), and ii) opportunities that support the company's international expansion (representing a technology that duplicates the company's own).

Microlise Group is continuing to grow as a business, comprising both topline and bottomline growth, and it also has a number of programmes in place to increase its margins. The company stresses that its business as a whole is quite cash-generative, and it aims to pay out a dividend in the longer term.
